Post war Inner courtyards – The Hague
In cooperation with the housing corporations Staedion, Hof Wonen and Haag Wonen and the municipality of The Hague, the Innovatielab Zuidwest is preparing a series of challenges for various indoor gardens in Southwest. We are currently exploring a number of suitable indoor gardens, formulating the challenges and involving different relevant parties.
Key question Challenge #1
The challenge lies in revaluing these green spaces in line with the urban planning principles of the 1950s-70s and exploiting their potential to improve livability. Challenge #1 aims to explore the urban design typologies of courtyard gardens in The Hague Southwest and map their potential significance as part of a larger public space. It focuses on creating a spatial image beyond the current perception of courtyard gardens and their potential role in a larger whole. In Challenge #1, the three designers collaborated with each other from the starting point of their “own” location with the goal of arriving at a collaborative dynamic map showing both opportunities and bottlenecks.
