Ministerie van Maak

The proposal imagines a future in which the Dutch government decided to move with the water and no longer protect certain parts of the Netherlands. The Noordoostpolder is one of these areas, in which Nagele – due to its cultural heritage values – will be preserved and will again be seen as a model village.

The Ministerie van Maak launched a concrete brief for 100 designers, asking them to research and design the development of 10.000 climate-proof dwellings within their area.
Our proposed framework questions and attempts to deal with challenges such as drought, waterlogging, soil conditions, local food, materials and energy production, agroforestry, cultural heritage and using the production of dwellings as a leverage to create sustainable spatial structures. Whether our proposal answers to the demand of 10.000 homes is a question that remains open for discussion.
